Kroonpress choose Edale for their Flexographic, Single-Pass Carton Presses
British manufacturers Edale are engineers of world-class, tailor-made flexographic printing and converting solutions for the label and carton packaging industry.
Edale is excited to confirm that Kroonpress Ltd (est. 1990 in Tartu, Estonia and are a part of Media Investments & Holding Ou), the leading offset printing press plant in the Baltic states, has purchased from Edale 3 pieces of printing and converting equipment in one large order.
The first press ordered is a 9 Colour 650mm wide FL5 single pass carton press complete with inline Flat Bed die cutter. The press has been configured to match Kroonpress’s needs and can produce completely finished cartons from a reel in one pass.
This includes reverse and topside printing, lamination, foiling, slitting, rewind facility, flatbed die-cutting, including embossing and stripping with finished cartons delivered onto a shingling conveyor for easy removal.
The rewind and slitting facility allows for reel-to-reel jobs to be run without changing the layout of the press. The versatility of the press is complemented by the addition of both Hot Air Drying and LED or interchangeable traditional UV Arc lamp curing, allowing different ink types to be used for specific applications.
The FL5’s build and unique printhead design allows for substrates up to 700 micron to be run with ease allowing ultimate flexibility in products that can be produced.
The second press ordered is a 650mm wide FL5 equipped with 4 print stations and designed for reel-to-reel applications and long-run orders.
Still equipped with a moveable turn bar for front and back printing the rewind has been designed to match the standard FL5 unwind, with both being able to handle reels up to 1500mm in diameter, allowing for much longer runs to be achieved before roll change is required. Again, this press has LED UV curing and Hot Air Drying for maximum flexibility.
Completing the purchase is a standalone reel fed Flatbed Die-Cutter.
The FDC-600 is fed by a jumbo unwind with 1500mm diameter reel handling capability.
Like the FDC on the 9 colour press the FDC-600 can achieve 13000 impressions per hour whilst still having the capability of embossing, cutting, stripping and delivering fully die-cut products onto a shingling conveyor.
This significant investment will support Kroonpress’s growth and expansion into other markets, such as paper cups, sleeves and bags, and cartons for the pharmaceutical and food industry.
Louise Bailey, Business Development Manager, Edale comments: “We are delighted that Kroonpress has chosen Edale for this major investment, particularly as they are more familiar with offset presses.
They diligently researched the market and booked a virtual demonstration with us to see first-hand the benefits that the flexographic modular and customised approach was able to give them.
The FL5 and FDC combinations purchased to provide a solution that gives them the latest technology they need now and but also offers the versatility for the future needs of an ever-changing market”.
Andres Kull, CEO, Kroonpress, comments: “Our investment of our two FL5 carton presses and web-fed flatbed die-cutter, FDC-600, will be a great addition to join our existing machinery, which is predominantly offset.
We went through a process to find the most suitable press, which took quite a while because we’ve been mostly offset printers so far. We needed to find out what other options were available to us. The Edale solution was the best match for us.
Of course, we knew of other big press manufacturers; however, we were looking for a modular narrow-web solution, which was different from our normal scope.
We knew from earlier experience that buying single pieces of machinery is not the way to do it; you need to purchase technologies that are most suitable to the market you are aiming at.
As we focus on the middle and short-range runs, we didn’t just focus on the most productive presses on the market, but the ones which provide the most flexibility, versatility, and the option to have short runs, which gives the most cost-efficiency, which can be achieved with flatbed die-cutting, which aligns to the current market trends to have more, but shorter runs.”
